About Us

Chardonnay Sailing Charters began its journey in 1984 with the purchase of its first vessel, the Chardonnay I. Inspired by the rolling vineyards of the Santa Cruz Mountains, the name reflects the region’s rich winemaking heritage and coastal charm.

The Chardonnay I was a stunning Santa Cruz ‘50, designed by renowned yacht designer Bill Lee, affectionately known as The Wizard. A founding member of the Santa Cruz School of Boatbuilding, Lee is celebrated for crafting some of the world’s most iconic racing yachts.

As the company grew, so did its ambitions. In 1991, Chardonnay I was succeeded by the larger and more powerful Santa Cruz ‘70, Chardonnay II, also custom-built by Bill Lee. For over 25 years, Chardonnay II has been a beloved symbol of Santa Cruz, delighting both locals and visitors with unforgettable sailing experiences.

The Santa Cruz ‘70 is a favorite among racing enthusiasts, known for its sleek hull and swift sails. But unlike many racing yachts, Chardonnay II offers generous onboard amenities and spacious topside seating, perfect for relaxing and taking in the breathtaking views of Monterey Bay.

Sunset cruise

These folks go out of their way to make you feel safe and comfortable during these trying Covid times. I totally felt safe. Then the added fun of just has a great fun crew. We had great weather and water. It also helped of in the distant we whale breaching.

Excellent sail

Wonderful crew, Our Orthodontic Team s Doctors went out on the sail as a team-building event. It turned out perfect we had the best time on the water together. I would recommend it for a large or small group. I want to do it again with my family. Highly recommend the sail.

Perfect fun!

Celebrated my birthday with friends on the BYO night. It was lovely! Vitamin sea, great music, great views, friendly and fun staff! It’s my second time sailing with them and will continue to book with them! It’s great for any occasion!

Had a blast

We had so much fun got to see wildlife. The captain and his crew were awesome. it was a beautiful sunny day. It was safe and kid friendly. The captain let my niece steer the wheel all by herself it was one of her "best day, ever"!

Great trip!

We had so much fun, the weather was perfect and the crew couldn't have been better!! We went for a birthday and were able to spend time together and the kids were excited to "drive" the boat. We will definitely be back again!
